Role Overview

The Associate Auditor is tasked with conducting and documenting standard audit reviews across various divisions within Northern Trust Corporation. Reporting to an Audit Team Lead, this role ensures audit tasks are performed efficiently, adhering to allocated budgets, deadlines, and quality standards. The auditor also provides valuable insights and suggestions to boost operational effectiveness and strengthen internal control frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Examine diverse departments by identifying pivotal risks and controls relevant to the area under review. Develop, carry out testing procedures, document outcomes, and assess the effectiveness of controls or overall control environments.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge regarding regulatory requirements and industry changes.
• Handle and execute special projects when assigned.
• Engage with business units to discuss audit findings.
• Communicate effectively across organizational levels, delivering recommendations on business operations and controls.
• Apply comprehensive understanding of various corporate units to verify that appropriate audit controls are implemented (e.g., control design).
• Assess corporate management practices, business processes, controls, and operational protocols during audit and consulting engagements.
• Utilize analytical expertise to review data and identify potential control vulnerabilities.
• Develop a deep familiarity with Northern Trust’s Audit Methodology and comply rigorously with all departmental standards.
• Compile comprehensive and well-organized summaries of audit findings and suggested improvements for professional review.

Qualifications and Skills

• Background in financial services auditing with a solid grasp of foundational accounting principles; typically holds a college or university degree and/or entry-level auditing experience in financial institutions.
• Preferred qualifications include professional certifications such as CPA, CISA, CIA, ACA, ACCA or an MBA, demonstrating expertise in accounting, regulatory compliance or risk management.
• Strong analytical and organisational capabilities to effectively plan, carry out, and support audit functions.
• Excellent report writing and audit documentation skills, coupled with high attention to detail.
