Our teams operate in a fast-moving consulting environment, collaborating across industries to deliver innovative solutions and uphold a culture of continuous learning and excellence.

Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Risk Consultant at the Assistant Manager or Manager level to join our Wellington-based consulting team working closely with key government agencies. This role offers a unique vantage point on emerging challenges in the current business landscape, involving dynamic project work and opportunities to contribute strategically to governance, risk, and control frameworks aligned with organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments across high-profile projects in diverse New Zealand sectors with emphasis on risk management, process evaluation, and control mechanisms.
  • Lead end-to-end internal audits and risk consulting engagements, overseeing project scoping, execution, and delivery phases.
  • Analyze data trends and patterns to identify potential risks impacting business operations.
  • Advise on practical enhancements to improve operational effectiveness, efficiency, systems, and organizational structures.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to tailor risk and control strategies fit for client needs.
  • Mentor and support junior team members by reviewing their work and providing constructive performance feedback.
  • Engage in business development by identifying new opportunities, contributing to thought leadership, preparing client proposals, and enhancing team capabilities.
  • Elevate KPMG’s market reputation through high-caliber work, informed judgement, and innovative methodological approaches.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated experience in risk, assurance, or internal audit roles spanning multiple industries. Background in professional services or government sectors is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to rapidly process information and creatively resolve issues.
  • Excellent communication capabilities, including advanced report writing, planning, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • An adaptable and positive outlook with enthusiasm to embrace evolving challenges and learning opportunities.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity, showing initiative to resolve uncertainties through inquiry, collaboration, and technical research.

Diversity and Inclusion Commitment

KPMG actively promotes inclusivity and encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities, mental health needs, chronic conditions, or neurodivergence, to apply. Support is available to ensure equitable participation throughout the recruitment process.

Employee Benefits

  • Participation in the firm’s annual incentive program.
  • Opportunities for secondments locally and internationally.
  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements combining office, client, and remote hubs.
  • Option to purchase additional annual leave and flexible leave policies.
  • Gender-neutral parental leave support with up to 18 weeks fully paid leave.
  • Company-sponsored professional memberships of choice.
  • Access to digital learning resources through partnerships with technology and learning platforms.
  • Discounts on insurance, banking, and lifestyle services.
  • Inclusion and diversity networks fostering allyship and community support.
  • Environmental initiatives aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030.
  • Social clubs and events spanning cultural, sporting, and community activities.
  • Paid leave for volunteering and citizenship engagement.
  • Comprehensive health and wellness programs including vaccinations, subsidized activities, counseling, and wellbeing leave.
