Job description
Overview
This position supports daily management of the security department, safeguarding property, employees, and guests by maintaining compliance with regulations and standards. The role also involves training staff on emergency protocols and promoting safety throughout hotel operations while contributing to budget goals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in performing hazard and risk evaluations, including quarterly OSHA and safety audits, incident tracking, and resolving identified hazards.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local safety laws and regulations.
- Maintain all legally required logs, certifications, and documentation per standard operating procedures.
- Supervise and review initial investigations of incidents, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.
- Manage key control procedures to support loss prevention strategies.
- Help promote and implement fire and accident prevention initiatives.
- Conduct comprehensive patrols covering interior and exterior areas as well as monitoring security recording systems.
- Investigate and follow up on unusual activities impacting guest and employee safety.
- Handle complaints and resolve conflicts or disputes through negotiation.
- Develop action plans aimed at monitoring and mitigating risks.
- Oversee all loss prevention functions including patrols, emergency responses, investigations, shipping and receiving oversight, electronic key systems, and manager-on-duty responsibilities.
- Support first aid programs for guests and staff.
- Participate in managing claims processes and closely track general liability and workers' compensation cases to protect company assets.
- Collaborate with meeting planners to ensure guest safety and successful event experiences.
Human Resources and Team Management
- Interview, select, and train security employees.
- Evaluate employee productivity and recommend promotions or status changes.
- Ensure safety and security of employees and property.
- Monitor attendance and record lateness or absences.
- Guide supervisors to accomplish developmental goals and conduct annual performance reviews.
Customer Service Excellence
- Meet and uphold quality and customer satisfaction standards daily.
- Identify training needs and develop educational programs, delivering instruction as necessary.
- Inspect and assess loss prevention team performance to ensure professionalism and excellent service.
- Strive to provide exceptional services that enhance guest satisfaction and loyalty.
Additional Duties
- Analyze information to determine optimal solutions to problems.
- Establish and maintain relationships with local law enforcement and emergency responders.
- Communicate relevant information promptly to management and colleagues via phone, email, or in person.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess a high school diploma or GED with minimum three years of experience in security or loss prevention, or
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field with at least one year of relevant professional experience.
