Job Overview
The Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in supporting store operations and boosting sales performance, acting as the deputy to the Store Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as deputy for the Store Manager when required.
- Support daily store operations including sales, staffing, customer service, security, health and safety, stock management, and resource allocation.
- Achieve and surpass store sales targets and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Assist with financial management tasks such as cash handling, wage cost control, budgeting, and administration of systems including TMS and SAP.
- Promote outstanding Visual Merchandising to draw, inspire, and inform customers.
- Recruit, train, coach, and manage store staff ensuring adherence to company policies with fairness and consistency.
- Manage employee absences including conducting return-to-work interviews.
- Handle specific assigned responsibilities as delegated by the Store Manager.
- Allocate staff to critical service zones and ensure daily task assignments are met.
- Maintain vigilance on store and stock room security, watching for potential theft and implementing measures to minimize pilferage.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety protocols, providing training to all staff accordingly.
- Consistently maintain high store standards aligned with auditing requirements.
- Act as a key holder responsible for alarm responses and after-hours call outs.
- Provide temporary support to other store locations when necessary.
- Perform any additional duties necessary to facilitate smooth store operation.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- At least 2 to 3 years of retail management experience depending on store size and grade.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, and people management capabilities.
- Experience with Visual Merchandising is preferred.
- A commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences and an understanding of its impact on sales and profitability.
- Proficient in IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Email, and SAP software.
- A third-level qualification in Business or Retail Management is advantageous but not mandatory.
