Job description
Position Overview
The National University of Singapore Libraries is seeking an Assistant Manager for Digital Scholarship to spearhead the design, creation, and deployment of immersive technology solutions such as 3D modeling, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR). This role supports the Digital Strategy and Innovation function to improve the accessibility and prominence of library collections while advancing the Libraries' digital transformation efforts.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the complete lifecycle of immersive technology projects including design, implementation, and optimization for uses in collections, exhibitions, research, and teaching.
- Develop and refine 3D capture and photogrammetry workflows encompassing modeling, rendering, and asset management pipelines.
- Create high-performance interactive 3D environments and immersive applications while ensuring they meet established standards related to performance, security, accessibility, and sustainability.
- Design and oversee structured digital repositories specifically for 3D and immersive media assets, ensuring integration with library platforms and adherence to metadata standards.
- Support seamless cloud deployment and scalability of immersive systems, leveraging cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Assess and prototype up-and-coming immersive technologies and generative AI tools applicable to libraries and digital heritage sectors.
- Act as the subject matter expert on immersive technologies within the library, providing technical advice and consultation to librarians, faculty, researchers, and external collaborators.
- Document procedures, develop technical standards, and build reusable frameworks to enhance the institution’s immersive technology capabilities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Interactive Media, Digital Technologies, Engineering, or related fields.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in immersive technologies, 3D development, or digital systems engineering.
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Expertise in photogrammetry and 3D modeling pipelines optimized for real-time and web-based environments.
- Proficiency in developing or deploying VR and AR applications on multiple platforms.
- Experience with 3D rendering engines, WebGL, or similar 3D immersive development frameworks.
- Capability in designing scalable immersive solutions with experience in cloud deployment, preferably with AWS.
- Strong knowledge of digital asset lifecycle management and repository architecture.
- Independent capability to architect complex technical solutions and lead implementations.
- Strong analytical and systems-thinking skills, coupled with effective stakeholder management.
- Excellent documentation practices and communication skills.
