Job description
Role Overview
The Assistant Land Surveyor will play a crucial role in enabling the accurate and timely execution of land surveying functions essential for infrastructure projects. The position involves assisting with fieldwork, performing measurements, levelling, and catalogue data systematically to ensure alignment with design plans and project standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support field survey tasks including measurements, setting out, and levelling while ensuring data is recorded precisely.
- Operate fundamental survey equipment such as total stations, levels, and GPS devices under guidance.
- Assist in processing survey data and compiling as-built documentation necessary for project compliance.
- Help maintain and calibrate surveying instruments, ensuring proper upkeep and timely updates of calibration records.
- Aid the setting-out process by marking references, grids, and levels, confirming their accuracy against engineering drawings before handover.
- Facilitate the secure transportation, installation, and storage of survey tools onsite, highlighting any equipment defects or damage.
- Maintain comprehensive site documentation, including field notebooks and daily survey reports per project protocols.
- Support innovative approaches by recommending and applying new technologies or methods that enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Between one and three years of practical experience in survey support roles, preferably tied to construction or infrastructure development.
- Direct involvement in site setting-out and field data acquisition activities.
Knowledge & Skills
- Fundamental knowledge of surveying techniques, levelling, and setting-out procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret civil design drawings and coordinate systems.
- Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to surveying fieldwork.
- Attention to numerical detail and precision in measurement tasks.
- Competency with basic surveying instruments under supervision.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications; experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with site and construction teams.
