Assistant General Manager - Project Procurement

Industry Experience

Role Overview

This leadership position directs the procurement operations and sourcing strategy for manufactured parts, assemblies, bought-out components, and associated services. The role is charged with establishing a strong supplier network both within India and internationally, while maintaining cost efficiency, superior quality, and adherence to delivery schedules.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead and nurture the procurement team, implementing procurement best practices across operations.
• Identify, assess, and develop vendors throughout India specializing in manufactured and engineered components.
• Source strategically on a global scale for critical components, assemblies, and advanced technologies.
• Manage procurement for fabricated, machined, cast, forged, hydraulic, drivetrain, electrical, and bought-out parts.
• Promote vendor development initiatives, localization efforts, and the creation of alternative sourcing options.
• Perform thorough supplier assessments including capability audits, technical evaluations, and commercial reviews.
• Negotiate commercial terms effectively with suppliers to optimize procurement outcomes.
• Pursue cost reduction, initiate value engineering, and enhance procurement productivity.
• Monitor key supplier performance metrics focusing on quality, cost control, delivery timelines, and responsiveness.
• Collaborate closely with internal teams including Engineering, Manufacturing, Projects, Quality Assurance, and Finance to synchronize procurement activities.
• Oversee import sourcing processes, manage relationships with international suppliers, and coordinate global procurement operations.
• Ensure materials are available as required while minimizing risks within the supply chain.
