Asset Engineer: Transportation

About the Role

Join Tauranga City Council as an Asset Engineer in our Transportation team, contributing to the safety, reliability, and optimal performance of Tauranga's road infrastructure. In this position, you will analyze asset data, evaluate road conditions, and utilize your hands-on experience with road maintenance to design maintenance and renewal programs that ensure effective service delivery for the city.

Your responsibilities will include reviewing network data, conducting on-site condition assessments, providing technical expertise, supporting contract management for construction and maintenance, and assisting with budget allocation to various planned activities. This multifaceted role combines technical analysis with practical problem-solving and offers the chance to positively influence Tauranga's transport network.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and refine road maintenance and renewal programs.
• Analyze asset information and perform network condition assessments.
• Validate maintenance and renewal strategies through on-site evaluations.
• Leverage asset management systems such as AWM and comprehensive data sets to underpin sound decisions.
• Deliver practical technical guidance regarding road assets and maintenance.
• Support the administration of contracts for road construction and upkeep.
• Assist with the budgeting and allocation for upcoming work initiatives.
• Collaborate with team members and contractors to achieve desired asset outcomes.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or comparable practical experience.
• Approximately five years of experience in road asset management, maintenance, or closely related transportation fields.
• Thorough knowledge of the roading industry and applicable practices.
• Proficiency with asset management software and databases, including RAMM and AWM.
• Experience in developing and optimizing forward-looking work programs.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and teams.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and pragmatic in approach.
