Role Summary

In the capacity of Asset Engineer - Mechanical, reporting to the Asset Manager, the incumbent will oversee the technical management, condition, reliability, availability, and lifecycle optimization of mechanical assets in wastewater treatment plants and related operation and maintenance facilities. The focus will be on mechanical asset reliability, condition assessment, maintenance strategy optimization, failure analysis, lifecycle planning, asset renewal, and enhancing performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute mechanical asset management plans aligned with the overarching asset management strategy.
  • Manage mechanical asset lifecycle including acquisition, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, refurbishment, replacement, and disposal phases.
  • Keep detailed mechanical asset registers capturing identification, location, condition, criticality, maintenance history, performance, and lifecycle data.
  • Evaluate asset health, useful life expectancy, criticality, and plan for replacement or renewal as needed.
  • Carry out Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) studies.
  • Supervise mechanical assets such as pumps, blowers, compressors, gearboxes, mixers, agitators, centrifuges, screens, conveyors, valves, actuators, and lifting equipment across sewage treatment facilities.
  • Develop and assess preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance approaches for essential mechanical assets.
  • Analyze breakdown incidents, downtime periods, vibration data, lubrication records, alignment and balancing results, plus maintenance logs to detect repetitive failures.
  • Promote condition monitoring practices including vibration analysis, oil/lubrication analysis, alignment, balancing, and other predictive maintenance techniques where applicable.
  • Lead or assist Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for major mechanical failures and oversee implementation of corrective measures.
  • Track availability, reliability, failure rates, downtime, Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), and maintenance costs.
  • Identify and recommend refurbishment, replacement, or renewal for assets that are deteriorated, obsolete, inefficient, underperforming, or pose high risk.
  • Review OEM support, spare parts availability, maintainability, and lifecycle risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Examine equipment specifications, datasheets, drawings, vendor documents; offer technical insights for procurement, refurbishment, replacement, upgrades, and commissioning.
  • Recommend critical mechanical spare parts and identify strategic or insurance spares requirements.
  • Coordinate effectively with Operations, Maintenance teams, OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and specialized service providers.
  • Ensure mechanical asset data, maintenance history, condition assessments, and technical documentation are accurately recorded in CMMS, ERP, or Asset Management Systems.
  • Support lifecycle cost and Total Cost of Ownership evaluations and develop forecasts for replacement or renewal.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on asset condition, reliability, failures, risks, maintenance needs, replacement priorities, and lifecycle costs.
  • Champion ongoing improvements in mechanical reliability, maintenance strategy, energy efficiency, and lifecycle performance.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field.
  • 5 to 8 years' experience relevant to mechanical asset management, maintenance, reliability engineering, or similar roles.
  • Preferably experienced in wastewater treatment, water utilities, process plants, industrial facilities, or operations and maintenance environments.
  • Thorough understanding of pumps, blowers, rotating machinery, mechanical treatment equipment, valves, and maintenance methodologies.
  • Experienced in condition monitoring, reliability enhancement practices, and using CMMS, ERP, or Asset Management software systems.
  • Strong analytical skills coupled with technical reporting and problem-solving capabilities; fluency in English is required.

Core Competencies

  • Asset lifecycle management with skills in condition and criticality assessments, performing FMECA and RCM evaluations.
  • Expertise in reliability engineering, preventive and predictive maintenance, and conducting Root Cause Analysis.
  • Proficiency in asset data management, CMMS/ERP systems, and generating technical reports.
  • Experience in lifecycle cost calculations, Total Cost of Ownership estimations, and strategic asset renewal planning.
  • Capability in risk management, effective problem-solving, stakeholder collaboration, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
