Position Overview

Saint Anselm College, a private liberal arts institution rooted in Benedictine tradition, is looking for an Area Coordinator to join its Residential Life and Education Department. This is an 11-month, live-in professional role reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Residential Life or their delegate, with coordination from the Director of Residential Life and Education. The Area Coordinator oversees 1-2 Resident Directors and a team of paraprofessional Resident Assistants (RAs), playing a pivotal role in planning and executing the residential education program, particularly in managing academic and co-curricular initiatives within a larger upper-class residential area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate Resident Assistants.
  • Manage physical conditions of residential areas, promptly address repair and maintenance needs, and resolve recurring student concerns including cleanliness, security, and property damage.
  • Maintain active communication with supervisors and office staff regarding building management and swiftly process student/building issues.
  • Oversee hall assignments and changes in room allocations.
  • Conduct routine walkthroughs to foster positive interactions with custodial staff and residents while monitoring building conditions.
  • Provide support in resolving student issues such as roommate disputes, facility requests, and access to campus resources.
  • Act as a liaison connecting student affairs professional staff, RAs, and residents.
  • Supervise residence hall events and coordinate educational and community development programming.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance co-curricular programming and promote the living-learning philosophy.
  • Serve as a Conduct Hearing Officer handling Community Standards and Student Conduct matters.
  • Participate in major hall events and promote campus resources through programs and student engagement.
  • Uphold knowledge and practical application of the College’s Emergency Management Plan; participate in on-call rotations as a Professional Staff Member.
  • Lead at least two departmental projects each semester such as housing operations, RA selection and training, and faculty collaboration.
  • Represent Residential Life on at least one Student Development and Mission division committee.
  • Carry out additional duties supporting the Division of Student Development and Mission and Residential Life and Education Office as needed.
  • Supervise 10-14 undergraduate Resident Assistants, a Residential Learning Community, and 1-2 professional staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree in student personnel, counseling, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience in housing or residence life operations, including staff supervision, training, or learning community involvement.
  • Demonstrates commitment to student development, safety, diversity, and social justice.
  • Respect and understanding of Catholic higher education traditions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to thrive in a dynamic, high-traffic environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, web design and management, and database systems.
  • Availability to perform daytime work and scheduled nightly on-call duties under varied weather conditions.
  • Basic counseling, conflict management, and crisis intervention knowledge.
  • Preferred experience includes advanced leadership in residence life, familiarity with campus maintenance and custodial processes, and understanding Saint Anselm policies and community standards.
