Job description

About the Role

Imagine leveraging your extensive physics expertise to directly impact how artificial intelligence comprehends the physical universe. We seek PhD-level Applied Physicists to rigorously test cutting-edge AI models by designing challenging problems, auditing AI reasoning, and ensuring these systems adhere strictly to the fundamental laws of physics.

This opportunity is a fully remote and flexible contract position aimed at researchers and scientists eager to contribute to significant advancements. No previous AI experience is required—only solid physics expertise and critical thinking to pinpoint where AI reasoning fails.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create advanced problems comparable to PhD qualifying exams that involve multi-step logical thinking, precise mathematical derivations, and deep understanding of principles from areas such as quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, and thermodynamics.
  • Develop exact, stepwise "golden responses" ensuring every physical constant, unit conversion, and logical step is meticulously accurate.
  • Critically assess AI-generated simulations, proofs, and explanations for consistency with physical laws; identify instances where AI generates fictitious physics violating basics like conservation of energy or momentum.
  • Offer detailed expert feedback to help AI models improve their physics-based reasoning, including correctly managing boundary conditions, symmetry considerations, and conservation rules.

Candidate Profile

  • PhD completed or nearing completion in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Profound knowledge of classical mechanics, electrodynamics, statistical mechanics, and quantum mechanics.
  • Outstanding analytical writing skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex derivations in a structured manner without losing rigor.
  • Meticulous about units, scientific notation, dimensional analysis, and logical coherence of proofs.
  • Highly self-driven and capable of working independently on task-focused projects.
  • No prior experience in AI or data annotation is necessary.
  • Nice to have: experience in data annotation, evaluating scientific datasets, or conducting quality assurance for research outputs.
  • Familiarity with computational tools such as Python (including NumPy/SciPy), MATLAB, or COMSOL is beneficial.
  • Background in research benchmarking or physics education is advantageous.

Why Join Us

  • Participate in impactful AI initiatives collaborating with leading AI research institutions worldwide.
  • Enjoy a fully remote, flexible role allowing you to work on your schedule from any location.
  • Apply your specialized knowledge to challenges that shape the future of AI.
  • Benefit from freelance flexibility combined with engaging, intellectually stimulating work.
  • Gain exposure to state-of-the-art AI models and their training and evaluation methodologies.
  • Opportunity for contract renewal and involvement in upcoming projects.
