Application Packager

Position Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Application Packager with at least five years of practical experience in enterprise application packaging, software deployment, and managing the application lifecycle. This role demands expertise in Microsoft SCCM/MECM, Windows Installer technologies including MSI/MST packaging, scripting, and deployment of enterprise software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and implement high-level application packaging standards and best practices for complex Microsoft Windows Installer packages suitable for enterprise environments.
• Oversee and maintain an enterprise-wide software deployment framework using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager.
• Create, update, test, validate, and sustain application packages to ensure robust and reliable deployment across the enterprise.
• Package commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), government off-the-shelf (GOTS), and custom applications employing tools such as AdminStudio, InstallShield, and PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit.
• Develop silent MSI/MST installers optimized for deployment through Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
• Apply necessary application configurations with standard industry tools and custom scripting at a granular level.
• Collaborate with developers and users to perform enterprise application discovery, collecting comprehensive requirements and settings.
• Produce high-volume, conflict-free, validated, rollback-capable, error-free, and just-in-time packages certified for configuration management environments.
• Build and maintain a clean, repeatable virtual machine environment as a foundation for packaging activities.
• Automate packaging processes and configure tools and global settings enterprise-wide.
• Write scripts to automate packaging and deployment utilizing PowerShell, VBScript, CScript, and WScript.
• Provide accurate time estimates and deliver regular status updates on packaging activities and electronic application delivery progress.
• Administer the entire SCCM software deployment lifecycle, including updates, patches, and maintenance.
• Diagnose and resolve packaging, installation, deployment, compatibility, and production-related issues, including complex, remote problems across multiple environments.
• Respond to ad hoc requests related to application packaging, deployment, and troubleshooting.
• Advise on optimal deployment strategies in coordination with Change Advisory Board, user engagement teams, and technical stakeholders.
• Adhere to established change and release management procedures, including planning and executing maintenance schedules.
• Identify issues in the production Microsoft environment and proactively suggest managerial improvements and solutions.
• Handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
• Collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams fostering shared accountability and successful delivery.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum five years of experience in application packaging and enterprise software deployment.
• Proficient with Microsoft SCCM/MECM and managing full software deployment cycles.
• Deep understanding of Windows Installer technology, MSI/MST packaging processes, silent installs, and application customization techniques.
• Hands-on experience using packaging tools such as AdminStudio, InstallShield, and PSAppDeployToolkit.
• Strong scripting capabilities with PowerShell, VBScript, CScript, and WScript.
• Expertise in troubleshooting complex Windows environments for deployment issues.
• Knowledgeable in change management and release management payroll processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with analytical and organizational strength.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager and modern deployment technologies.
• Experience with MSIX, App-V, or other virtualization and packaging tools.
• Sound knowledge of Windows Registry, Group Policy, Active Directory, and Windows OS internals.
• Advanced expertise in PowerShell scripting for automation of packaging and deployment workflows.
• Experience supporting large-scale corporations with numerous complex dependencies and deployment challenges.
