Department and Focus

The newly established Research & Development Centre in Cork, Ireland, specializes in software design for Motorola’s comprehensive land mobile radio (LMR) systems. The company has invested over US$850 million in R&D during 2023 alone. Role Description

We are looking for a motivated Android Software Engineer to build innovative, mission-critical software solutions for Android-enabled two-way radios. This role emphasizes Android platform software development and offers opportunities to grow skills within an advanced technology and team-based development environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop Android-based software for mission-critical communication devices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions for public safety technology.
• Apply software engineering principles throughout the development lifecycle to produce quality end products.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, or Computer Science.
• Strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals, problem-solving capabilities, and detail-oriented approach.
• Experience with full software development lifecycle (SDLC) and delivering user-facing products or services.
• Proficiency in Java or Kotlin programming languages.
• Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

• Understanding of Linux kernel concepts such as memory management, interrupt/event handling, synchronization, and CPU resource management.
• Familiarity with Android platform internals and framework components like Bluetooth, sensors, widgets, and services.
• Experience with Android SDK, NDK, and Android Studio for Java/Kotlin development.
• Competence in C/C++ programming.
• Knowledge of Linux device driver frameworks and ability to read hardware schematics.
• Experience using hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and hardware debuggers.
• Exposure to automated build systems, continuous integration, and deployment processes.
