Role Overview
We are seeking a mid-level Analytics Engineer to join our Business Intelligence team to speed up how quickly we transform data into actionable insights. This role is pivotal in bridging business stakeholders and data models by translating reporting requirements into precise metrics and ensuring consistency across systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and sustain dbt models advancing from the business vault to data marts within Redshift, adhering to best practices and standards.
- Enhance existing data models by adding fields and refining computations collaboratively with BI and Enterprise Data teams.
- Create new Kimball-style datasets sourced from the business vault when data ingestion is unnecessary.
- Construct and maintain datasets optimized for AI consumption, ensuring they are documented, reliable, and structured to support machine learning.
- Update and manage the data dictionary in OpenMetadata with accurate definitions, data lineage, and documentation as models evolve.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to define and clarify reporting metrics, turning vague questions into well-defined model specifications.
- Work with BI Analysts to convert analytical needs into model requirements, eliminating obstacles that distract analysts from core analytical work.
- Design and build Tableau dashboards and reporting tools that visualize data mart outputs effectively, keeping complex logic within data layers rather than in Tableau sources.
Required Qualifications
- At least four years of experience in analytics engineering, data analytics, or related disciplines.
- Proficient in dbt with hands-on experience authoring models, tests, and documentation in live environments.
- Strong SQL abilities, especially within cloud data warehousing environments; experience with Redshift is advantageous.
- Knowledge of dimensional modeling concepts, including facts, dimensions, and slowly changing dimensions.
- Proven experience delivering business-facing dashboards and analytical insights, beyond just data pipeline creation.
- Familiar with business intelligence tools such as Tableau, capable of integrating multiple data sources for comprehensive analyses.
- Comfortable working within Git workflows including branching, pull requests, and code reviews.
Compensation and Inclusion
The salary band for this role ranges from $110,000 to $135,000 CAD annually, with potential bonuses and comprehensive medical and financial benefits. Salary offers will be based on demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience. We actively encourage applications from diverse backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive environment. We provide equal opportunity employment regardless of race, identity, religion, disability, or other protected attributes.
