About the Role

The Airport Baggage Sorter plays a vital role in managing passenger luggage through sorting, handling, loading, unloading, and routing tasks to ensure smooth and secure operations at the airport. This position demands strict adherence to baggage tags, flight schedules, security protocols, and operational timing while working in a dynamic airport environment.

Key Duties

• Organize and direct passenger baggage by flight number, destination, baggage labels, and operational needs.
• Load and unload luggage using aircraft, carts, containers, conveyor belts, and other authorized ground support equipment.
• Guarantee accurate delivery of baggage to the correct flight, transfer zone, make-up section, arrival point, or specified handling area.
• Interpret and verify baggage tags, barcodes, flight info, and destination codes with precision.
• Handle bags cautiously to prevent damage, loss, or routing errors.
• Transfer connecting and transit baggage to correct flights within set operational times.
• Use baggage conveyor belts, carts, dollies, belt loaders, and related equipment safely and effectively.
• Assist with priority, oversized, special handling, and transfer baggage as required.
• Inspect bags visually for damage, incorrect routing, or unusual conditions.
• Track baggage flow and promptly report delays, discrepancies, misrouted, damaged, or lost luggage.
• Keep detailed records of baggage movement, irregularities, and damage.
• Collaborate with airline and operations teams including ramp agents, handlers, security, and supervisors.
• Observe airport security processes and maintain required access controls when handling baggage.
• Ensure all activities follow airport, airline, aviation security, and company policies.
• Perform regular checks on baggage handling equipment and inform of any mechanical or safety issues.
• Be alert to potential hazards from aircraft, vehicles, machinery, and other equipment on the ground.
• Employ proper manual handling methods to minimize workplace injuries.
• Utilize personal protective equipment and adhere to health and safety protocols at all times.
• Maintain orderly, clean, and safe baggage handling and operational zones.
• Report incidents promptly including accidents, injuries, security concerns, near misses, and equipment failures.
• Support operations during peak travel, flight disruptions, cancellations, or irregular situations.
• Take part in baggage reconciliation, transfer, and control functions when necessary.
• Follow assigned shifts reliably, including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
• Maintain required identification, security clearances, uniforms, and access passes.
• Help train new baggage handlers and adapt to updated handling procedures when directed.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives on operational efficiency, safety, accuracy, and customer service quality.
• Carry out additional baggage handling duties and ground support tasks as assigned.
