Job description

About The Singapore AI Center Of Excellence (COE)

The Singapore AI Center of Excellence (COE) serves as a specialized engineering and research hub dedicated to advancing Enterprise and Sovereign AI. Our goal is to seamlessly transition AI workflows into production by developing reusable software architectures addressing common industry challenges and contributing improvements to upstream open-source projects, particularly in areas such as system deployment, runtime optimization, and platform administration.

Situating our engineering team in Singapore facilitates a direct feedback mechanism among customers, partners, and core product teams, enabling relevant and timely development roadmaps, accelerated solution delivery, and enhanced co-innovation across the APAC region.

Role Overview

The AI/ML Engineer holds a technical and practical role bridging Enterprise AI and client-focused architectural design. As a key member of our Customer Engineering group, you will craft production-level solution blueprints collaboratively with strategic clients and technology partners. Your key objective is to tackle immediate operational challenges within the APAC region by delivering reusable, scalable, and open-source AI Quickstarts that demonstrate solutions to complex industry problems.

Career advancement in this role is determined strictly by technical proficiency, architectural expertise, and independent solution delivery in uncertain and ambiguous contexts, without any requirement for team management, project leadership, or talent mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create detailed, production-quality architecture blueprints that embed essential enterprise features like system hardening, scalable infrastructure, and network isolation — while not requiring direct involvement in final deployment.
  • Develop open-source AI Quickstarts offering repeatable and extendable technical architectures that address real-world industry needs and speed up ecosystem adoption.
  • Work directly with external engineering teams, including semiconductor partners, regional AI initiatives, and software vendors, to validate and ensure the stability of integrated architecture blueprints.
  • Design and incorporate automated testing, benchmarking harnesses, and telemetry systems within the blueprints to track crucial performance metrics, including latency, throughput, cost, and model quality.
  • Integrate robust data privacy, secure network design, and localized hosting practices in all solutions to adhere to compliance and risk protocols in regulated environments.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Academic background with a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent quantitative discipline.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of software engineering principles, including clean coding standards, test-driven development, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), and version control using Git.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English for clear communication of complex technical designs to engineering teams and stakeholders.

Technical Proficiencies

  • Advanced expertise in Python programming, particularly for machine learning and systems-level coding, complemented by familiarity with system languages such as Go or C/C++.
  • Proficiency with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and familiarity with NLP/vision libraries such as Hugging Face Transformers, datasets, and tokenizers.
  • Hands-on experience deploying containerized applications within Kubernetes or other enterprise-grade container orchestration ecosystems.
  • Foundational understanding of MLOps concepts, including model deployment lifecycles, data ingestion, and automation of packaging workflows.

Additional Areas for Growth

  • Experience or exposure to platform and pipeline engineering involving distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Ray), workflow orchestration tools (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow), unstructured data processing, and vector database technologies.
  • Knowledge of generative AI tools including LLM orchestration engines (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex), agent-based workflows, tool-calling protocols, and model fine-tuning techniques.
  • Understanding heterogeneous hardware optimizations for model serving runtimes and benchmarking across diverse GPU/accelerator platforms like CUDA, ROCm, and NPUs.
  • Competence in designing secure, isolated network environments for air-gapped container deployments and compliance-focused inference setups.

Preferred Industry Background

  • Experience applying AI/ML to regulated sectors such as financial services with knowledge of risk modeling and fraud detection.
  • Work in public sector or healthcare areas involving sensitive data management, anonymization, and secure regulatory-compliant deployment.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications or manufacturing fields focusing on edge AI, high-throughput data pipelines, and low-latency architecture design.

Why Join the Singapore AI COE?

  • Opportunity to influence open-source AI architectures that impact the wider community and ecosystem.
  • Focused technical career path with growth tied directly to architectural and engineering contributions, without managerial duties.
  • Access to cutting-edge technologies including emerging AI hardware, next-gen agent architectures, and enterprise software stacks.
