Job description

Role Overview

This permanent position serves as the technical expert for Safer Vehicles within the land transport system. The role involves providing advice, support, and guidance to internal safer vehicles teams, regulated parties, and key stakeholders to ensure consistent regulatory compliance and enhance transportation safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical expertise and guidance across all safer vehicle operational areas.
  • Maintain and foster key operational relationships internally and externally.
  • Provide clear, consistent technical information and advice related to regulatory matters.
  • Support the development and implementation of best practice and regulatory consistency.

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong technical skills and a keen interest in gaining technical knowledge relating to safer vehicle operations.
  • Sound understanding of the legislative environment governing transportation safety.
  • Ability to make informed, risk-based decisions.
  • System-level thinking to appreciate wide-scale impacts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in relationship management and capacity to influence and build credibility with diverse stakeholders.
  • Up-to-date knowledge or willingness to maintain awareness of relevant legislation and evolving vehicle technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and partner effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Competence in delivering consistent, tailored technical advice to support regulatory teams.

Qualifications and Additional Information

  • Relevant industry qualifications in a related field or equivalent experience are required.

Applicants should demonstrate knowledge or readiness to develop an understanding of Te Ao Māori and actively promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. Familiarity or an eagerness to appreciate Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the public sector context is also important.
