Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer located in Auckland, New Zealand, to provide Level 3 technical support in enterprise environments involving Windows Server, VMware, and Microsoft Azure hybrid cloud infrastructure. This role contributes to cloud transformation, disaster recovery, and infrastructure migration initiatives for major government departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Level 3 support across enterprise Windows Server and VMware platforms.
- Manage, troubleshoot, and maintain VMware components including vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter to ensure optimal availability and performance.
- Execute VMware patching, upgrades, remediation, and lifecycle management tasks.
- Support Windows Server installations, configurations, patching, and problem resolution.
- Provide operational support for VMware Site Recovery Manager and participate actively in disaster recovery and business continuity processes.
- Troubleshoot and support infrastructure spanning on-premise VMware, Wintel, and Microsoft Azure environments.
- Assist with hybrid cloud infrastructure and support Azure workload migration projects.
- Drive continuous improvement through infrastructure optimization and adherence to best practices.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and uphold operational standards and procedures.
- Utilize automation and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Azure CLI, ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform where relevant.
- Collaborate closely with technical teams, customers, and stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and project delivery.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum six years of relevant infrastructure experience with at least two years in a similar platform engineering role.
- Proven hands-on expertise in Windows Server administration and VMware technologies.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills within complex enterprise IT environments.
- Experience with ITIL frameworks, including change and incident management processes.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Desirable Skills and Certifications
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) certifications.
- Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104) or equivalent cloud certification.
- Experience with VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM), vSAN, High Availability (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), and vMotion technologies.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Machines, networking, storage solutions, monitoring tools, and Entra ID.
- Knowledge of automation scripting and infrastructure-as-code using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bicep, or Terraform.
