Machine Learning Engineer Internship - Remote

Internship Overview

Join dSights Consultancy Services Private Limited as a Machine Learning Engineer Intern focused on structured and tabular data. This remote internship involves building, evaluating, interpreting, and deploying predictive models using datasets from customers, transactions, finance, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Preprocess and analyze tabular datasets addressing missing data, outliers, categorical variables, and ensuring data quality.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis and feature engineering to build classification and regression models with defined baselines.
• Develop and compare tree-based ensemble models and neural networks tailored for tabular data prediction, packaging models for reproducible inference.
• Create training, validation, and testing splits carefully designed to avoid data leakage issues.
• Assess models using various metrics, implement cross-validation techniques, and perform detailed error analyses.
• Build Python-based pipelines for reproducible data preparation, model training, and inference; document experiments, explain model predictions, and collaborate with developers for integration.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

• Strong proficiency in Python, including libraries like pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn; familiarity with SQL and version control using Git.
• Solid understanding of probability, statistics, and linear algebra fundamentals.
• Knowledge of regression, classification, decision trees, random forests, and gradient boosting methods; hands-on experience with XGBoost, LightGBM, or CatBoost.
• Understanding of neural network concepts such as backpropagation, loss functions, optimization, and regularization; practical experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience handling feature encoding, addressing class imbalance, preventing overfitting, applying cross-validation, and evaluating models effectively.
• Completion of at least one comprehensive end-to-end tabular machine learning project including neural network training.
• Desirable skills include exposure to advanced tabular models like TabNet, FT-Transformer, TabPFN, or TabICL, familiarity with SHAP for explainability, probability calibration techniques, synthetic data generation, hyperparameter tuning, experiment tracking, and model deployment.
• Interest in domains such as credit risk assessment, churn prediction, customer propensity modeling, collections, or forecasting is a plus.

• Can commit to a four-month internship duration.

Additional Information

• Stipend ranges between INR 20,000 and INR 30,000 per month.
• Interns will receive a certificate and letter of recommendation upon completion.

• Applicants should be students or recent graduates in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, AI/ML, or closely related quantitative fields.
