Position Overview

This senior engineering position sits within the Power & Digital delivery division of UCC Holding and covers the technical leadership of data center projects end to end. The role ensures that all project designs remain technically sound from early definition stages through construction handover, with strong focus on power, cooling, civil, and ICT systems that meet hyperscale and colocation requirements and can be built, commissioned, and operated successfully.

Working closely with the COO, the Data Center Executive Director, and the project execution team, the role acts as the main technical authority for the assigned projects. It carries responsibility for design standards, coordination across disciplines, OEM engagement, and technical risk control throughout the full project lifecycle.

Technical Leadership and Design Management

  • Guide engineering teams working across power, cooling, civil/structural, and ICT scopes.
  • Take ownership of technical standards and design basis documents through FEED.
  • Make sure designs are practical to build, aligned with installation sequencing, and ready for site execution.
  • Coordinate between disciplines and resolve clashes using 3D plant modelling tools such as REVIT and similar platforms.

Power Systems

  • Direct the design of HV/MV/LV power systems, including utility intake, MV switchgear, transformers, and LV distribution.
  • Oversee the design of UPS, battery storage, and generator systems, including OEM coordination.
  • Ensure redundancy concepts are properly applied for AI-ready campus requirements.
  • Work with specialist consultants on protection studies, metering, and power quality assessments.

Cooling and MEP

  • Lead cooling design for air-side economization, chillers, air cooling, and liquid cooling for high-density AI workloads.
  • Work toward PUE targets aligned with hyperscale expectations; the industry benchmark for AI campuses is 1.2–1.4 PUE.
  • Manage design integration for plumbing, drainage, HVAC, and fire suppression systems.
  • Partner with energy modelling teams to confirm efficiency and performance forecasts.

Civil, Structural, and Building Scope

  • Handle civil and structural design activities such as foundations, raised floor systems, data halls, and façade.
  • Ensure structures are suitable for equipment loads, seismic factors, and phased expansion.
  • Coordinate M&E services within the building shell to reduce clashes and avoid rework on site.

ICT, Cabling, and Connectivity

  • Oversee design of ICT infrastructure including structured cabling, fiber backbone, and carrier-neutral meet-me rooms.
  • Embed DCIM readiness into the design from the beginning to support efficient operations after handover.
  • Work with network operators and hyperscale clients on connectivity and meet-me room requirements.

Commissioning Alignment

  • Involve the commissioning team from FEED onward so that testing requirements and safe energization sequences are built into the design.
  • Define and review CX documentation, including CX plans, ITPs, FAT, and SAT procedures.
  • Ensure handover documentation is complete, accurate, and aligned with client O&M expectations.

HSE and Quality

  • Apply safety-by-design principles across all engineering disciplines.
  • Own HAZOP and HAZID planning, chair related sessions, and track closure of resulting actions.
  • Manage quality assurance for design outputs through reviews, checking, and formal sign-off.

Client and Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the main technical contact for hyperscale and colocation clients during design development.
  • Lead technical clarification discussions with clients, authorities, and utility providers.
  • Represent UCC in technical workshops involving OEMs, specialist consultants, and external design teams.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • A BEng or MEng degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or another relevant discipline.
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience in mission-critical facilities or data center projects.
  • Proven delivery experience on hyperscale or large colocation data center developments.
  • Strong practical knowledge of data center power architecture.
  • Solid experience with cooling system design.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams of more than 10 engineers.
  • Experience working in FEL/FEED-based delivery environments.
  • Ability to use design software such as AutoCAD, REVIT, or equivalent tools.
  • Prior exposure to the Middle East or similar international markets.

Desirable:

  • Experience with LEED, BREEAM, or comparable sustainability certification frameworks.
  • Familiarity with hyperscale client standards such as Google, Microsoft Azure, Meta, AWS, and Oracle.

Additional Information

This role is focused on technical leadership for mission-critical data center delivery, with emphasis on constructability, operability, commissioning readiness, and coordination across multiple engineering disciplines. The position is based in Doha, Qatar and is a full-time onsite role.
