General Porter

About the Role

Join our dedicated healthcare team at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust as a General Porter, where your compassion and dedication directly contribute to outstanding patient care and hospital operations. This full-time position is based in Frimley, Surrey, and involves working up to 37.5 hours per week on a rotating shift schedule including nights and weekends, with pay enhancements for unsociable hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely and compassionately transport patients across hospital sites using beds, wheelchairs, or trolleys.
• Move medical equipment and furniture between wards to facilitate daily hospital functions.
• Collect and deliver vital supplies, clinical samples, and postal items to support patient care and departmental communication.
• Perform waste collection and disposal to maintain a clean and safe hospital environment.
• Respond calmly and efficiently to emergency situations as needed.
• Communicate effectively by answering telephones courteously and passing messages promptly.
• Ensure equipment is maintained in good working order by reporting faults to supervisors.

Candidate Requirements

• Compassionate nature with a strong commitment to patient dignity and safety.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Comfortable using IT systems relevant to the role.
• Ability to work flexibly across various shifts including nights and weekends.
• Physical capability to move and lift heavy objects such as beds and wheelchairs.
• Previous experience in portering or customer service environments preferred but not essential.
• Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Successful completion of Maths and English assessments as part of recruitment.
• Right to work in the UK without the need for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.

Education and Training

No formal qualifications required; full training will be provided. Applicants should have a good understanding of English language and literature.
