About the Role
Join a top-tier global payments company as a Java Software Engineer within the dynamic WPG Engineering team located in Cambridge. Contribute to one of the highest-volume payment platforms worldwide by enhancing and maintaining an ecommerce payments gateway operated by Worldpay.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate in cross-functional agile teams comprising developers, testers, product owners, and scrum masters to deliver new features and maintain existing capabilities.
- Develop and enhance software components primarily in Java, SQL, and PL/SQL addressing complex problems with support from the principal engineer.
- Engage closely with product owners to define detailed specifications for new payment gateway features by interpreting industry payment standards and applying them practically.
- Partner with test engineers to outline testing strategies and contribute to authoring automated tests at component, integration, and system levels.
- Assist with the deployment process ensuring the value delivery of new features in production environments.
- Participate in a release support rotation that may occasionally require after-hours support.
- Leverage generative AI tools integrated within internal development workflows to optimize engineering efficiency.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated expertise in Java and SQL development, with PL/SQL being highly advantageous.
- Proven ability to design and implement effective solutions to intricate business challenges.
- Competence in secure software development practices.
- Experience with distributed system technologies such as Identity and Access Management (IAM), digital certificates/PKI, observability frameworks, and containerization.
- Familiarity with Linux-based development and production environments.
Desired Extras
- Optimization experience with large-scale database performance.
- Background in payments or financial services domains.
- Hands-on knowledge of security and quality tools like SAST, SCA, and Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines.
- Experience working with Apache Kafka.
