Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated R&D Technician for a 7-month fixed-term contract at our Cork location. As an integral part of the R&D Engineering team, you will aid the specification, procurement, installation, validation, and operational implementation of new equipment, including molding and mold tooling, essential for developing innovative products and processes at our Ireland site. You will also assist in maintaining the R&D Engineering Group's equipment, ensuring peak functionality across molding, curing, metrology, cleaning, chemical processing, and packaging systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with R&D engineers to specify, design, and procure new technical equipment.
- Support process development activities, including characterization and optimization within R&D Engineering.
- Assist in creating and executing validation documents, such as risk and validation assessments, commissioning, and validation protocols.
- Maintain R&D Engineering equipment and utilities, including preventive upkeep.
- Manage setup and tooling modifications for R&D molding machines, ensuring smooth operation and maintenance.
- Oversee assembly, installation, and construction of new equipment at the site, including identifying and managing spare parts inventory.
- Coordinate with suppliers and external contractors by obtaining quotations, reviewing method statements, conducting risk assessments, and supervising contract personnel onsite.
- Provide immediate technical support for all R&D Engineering process and utilities equipment issues.
- Deliver daily activity reports to supervisors and project engineers, proactively highlighting any concerns.
- Meet assigned project milestones promptly while managing budgets effectively.
- Contribute to safety risk assessments when introducing new equipment or processes.
- Investigate and document process challenges and relay findings and solutions to Engineering teams.
- Ensure strict adherence to Alcon's Quality System requirements, maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards.
- Perform all work in alignment with health, safety, and environmental guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Preferred Level 7 qualification in an Engineering or Technical discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a similar technical role within the Medical Device industry; 5+ years preferred.
- Proficient troubleshooting skills for electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Familiarity with robotics, PLCs, and vision systems.
- Competent in operating and repairing highly automated equipment.
- Basic knowledge of networking and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Experience using Veeva, Maximo, and Teamcenter software.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with practical application of problem resolution techniques.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO, FDA, and GMP.
