Job description

Position Overview

The Data Scientist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital plays a key role in assessing the effectiveness of deployed interventions within the healthcare system. This includes designing evaluation strategies for decision support systems, covering both process-oriented interventions and AI-driven solutions. The position requires close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure models meet safety, interpretability, and organizational alignment criteria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop robust metrics related to process, performance, and outcomes to validate and evaluate impact.
  • Create innovative evaluation designs including retrospective, prospective, quasi-experimental, and experimental approaches.
  • Perform comprehensive error analysis and conduct fairness and bias assessments.
  • Monitor performance of models and interventions in production, addressing any performance drifts.
  • Translate the requirements of stakeholders into quantifiable evaluation criteria.
  • Document all evaluation choices and maintain reproducible workflows.
  • Work collaboratively across teams to ensure evaluation results inform decision-making effectively.
  • Participate in additional special projects and assigned duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in Python or R programming languages and skilled with SQL.
  • At least three years’ experience in designing evaluation processes and validating machine learning models.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and handling of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Strong commitment to thorough documentation and reproducibility.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience designing prospective experimental studies.
  • Background in developing new metrics from complex Electronic Health Records (EHR) data and clinical workflows.
  • Advanced expertise in analyzing healthcare data, including EHR and insurance claims data.

Salary

The position offers an annual salary range from $74,000 to $111,000 commensurate with experience, education, and licensure. Benefits and opportunities for professional growth are included.
