Data Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Data Engineer to help design and implement clean, scalable, and secure backend systems. You will join a collaborative and cross-functional team that values strong architecture, thoughtful implementation, and writing clean code. This position is based in Auckland and offers a flexible hybrid working model.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain production-quality backend systems and data pipelines that perform efficiently at scale.
• Develop and integrate secure RESTful APIs interfacing with various internal and external enterprise applications.
• Deliver and optimize complex SQL and PLSQL queries to manage large datasets effectively.
• Collaborate closely with product management, frontend engineers, and data specialists to provide comprehensive software solutions.
• Support database performance monitoring, schema design, and live system tuning.
• Contribute expertise to backend architecture, security best practices, and continuous integration/deployment processes.

Technical Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency in SQL and PLSQL with experience in database performance tuning.
• Proven commercial experience in backend development using Python.
• Strong skills in API design and integration, including REST, JSON, and OAuth standards.
• Knowledge of database administration and ETL/ELT pipeline development.
• Familiar with DevOps tools and principles such as Git version control and CI/CD pipelines.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with modern data orchestration tools such as dbt or Apache Airflow.
