Job Overview
The Maintenance Coordinator for the Drills section is responsible for organizing and supervising maintenance activities related to drilling machinery. The role encompasses planning, overseeing execution, ensuring compliance with OEM standards, managing budgets, and optimizing operational efficiency while maintaining safety and equipment dependability.
Core Responsibilities
- Collaborate with planners to create and manage maintenance schedules for drill equipment to reduce downtime and enhance reliability.
- Ensure all work instructions, inspection, and test plans conform to original equipment manufacturer specifications.
- Maintain and update service sheets dynamically in collaboration with the reliability team to prevent equipment failures.
- Coordinate with various stakeholders including technical advisors, supervisors, mechanics, and contractors to guarantee necessary resources are available before maintenance starts.
- Support troubleshooting efforts in accordance with response plans when breakdowns exceed two hours.
- Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective action reporting for major component failures or breakdowns lasting more than four hours.
- Supervise compliance with quality standards, scope, and timelines in mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks.
- Participate in meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all statutory equipment inspections and documentation, including log books, are current and accurately maintained.
- Aid in formulating and managing maintenance budgets, monitoring expenses, and identifying cost optimization opportunities.
- Work alongside procurement and supply chain teams to optimize spare parts acquisition and inventory management.
- Ensure precise and timely completion of maintenance records and work orders.
- Promote continuous learning and safety culture among team members by fostering training participation and hazard communication across shifts.
Required Competencies
- Strong capability with Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preferably Pronto.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in drilling equipment.
- Understanding of budgeting principles and cost control in maintenance contexts.
- Experience in prioritizing tasks based on criticality, safety risks, and operational impact.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis and maintenance workflow processes.

Experience and Educational Requirements
- At least five years of experience in maintenance coordination, ideally in mining or heavy industry sectors.
- Experience specifically with drill maintenance including hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems is highly valued.
- Proven background in budget oversight and cost control related to maintenance activities.
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Certified reliability, maintenance planning, or quality control qualification.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and membership of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) or equivalent body.
