Job description
About the Opportunity
We are expanding our capabilities in the area of bridge management with the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and various local councils, overseeing assets such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and river protection structures throughout Northland.
We are searching for a Structural Engineering Technician to join our Civil Structures team in Whangārei. This role supports diverse infrastructure projects including new bridge builds, structural asset enhancements, life-extension strengthening, upgrades to accommodate higher load capacities, resilience and climate adaptation initiatives, repairs from vehicle impacts or severe weather, and general civil and structural engineering assistance within the broader Whangārei team.
You will play a key role in project execution through monitoring construction activities, managing contracts, supporting procurement, conducting asset inspections, and preparing technical documentation. Collaborating closely with bridge and structural engineers, contractors, and clients, you will help implement pragmatic solutions to enhance the safety, performance, and durability of Northland’s transport infrastructure.
A strong focus on occupational health, safety, and risk management is crucial as your responsibilities include working on active construction sites and maintaining critical infrastructure. Although based in Whangārei, you will have access to a multidisciplinary network of technical experts across the firm.
This position offers excellent opportunities for technical skill enhancement, project delivery expertise, and professional growth within structural engineering.
Based on experience and skill level, the anticipated salary range is NZ$70,000 to NZ$90,000 annually. The role is full-time, with a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week.
