Role Overview

The Machine Learning Frameworks team focuses on two primary goals: accelerating the research iteration cycle and maximizing production performance to fully leverage hardware capabilities. This dual challenge forms the core and fun aspect of the work.

Technical Responsibilities

The team develops diverse components including optimisers, code generators, runtime libraries, and orchestration layers that manage computation over heterogeneous hardware. The technology stack involves C++, Rust, Python, MLIR, and CUDA. While mastery of all these technologies is not mandatory, enthusiasm to work with this stack is essential.

The scope spans broad system-level tasks such as overseeing the end-to-end compute pipeline and creating unified products, as well as detailed efforts involving hardware behavior analysis, compute graph optimization, and extracting peak performance from critical code paths. The role entails comprehensive management of the stack from top to bottom.

Candidate Profile

• Proficient in writing production-quality code in system programming languages such as C++ or Rust, or equivalent languages with comparable characteristics, with a pragmatic approach to selecting the most suitable tool.
• Interested in understanding the compilation process and hardware execution of programming languages.
• Comfortable tackling unfamiliar segments of the technology stack independently.
• Adept at engaging with stakeholders to discern their actual requirements beyond stated demands.
• Experienced in maintaining and supporting production systems that others depend on, including debugging and ownership over sustained periods.

Exclusions

No prerequisite for a finance background or comprehensive familiarity with all the languages used. The company prioritizes hiring engineers who enjoy resolving trader-related problems and offers contextual learning.
