Job description
Overview
The Planning Supervisor is responsible for managing demand forecasting, material requirements, and inventory flow within hospital operations. This role ensures alignment between supply capabilities and clinical, administrative, and facility needs to maintain continuous service delivery, avoid stock shortages, and optimize inventory holding costs across the hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate accurate demand forecasts for hospital inventories, including clinical consumables, administrative materials, and facility spares, based on patient volume and department requests.
- Coordinate with heads of Nursing, Clinical Operations, Facilities, IT, and Finance to plan procurement for major projects, seasonal demand fluctuations, and non-routine needs.
- Establish and monitor inventory control parameters such as min/max thresholds, safety stock, and reorder points for central warehouses and ward sub-stores.
- Manage Material Requirements Planning (MRP) processes using the hospital's ERP or Health Information System platforms to facilitate timely purchasing and buffer stock management.
- Collaborate with procurement and logistics teams to track delivery lead times and schedules ensuring uninterrupted operational supply flows.
- Implement strict inventory rotation methods (FIFO/FEFO) to prevent material obsolescence and reduce waste throughout all hospital storage units.
- Monitor and report on KPIs including forecast accuracy, stockout occurrences, inventory turnover, and fulfillment rates.
- Supervise the planning team consisting of analysts, store supervisors, and coordinators to optimize performance and scheduling.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Between 4 to 6 years of experience in supply chain planning and inventory control, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or senior planner position in a healthcare or hospital setting.
- Professional certifications such as APICS CPIM or CSCP are preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- Technical proficiency with ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, or TrackCare and advanced capabilities in MS Excel.
- Strong analytical skills for consumption data analysis, statistical forecasting, and trend assessment.
- Effective communication skills in both English and Arabic, with solid leadership and interdepartmental collaboration abilities.
