About the Role
Join the team responsible for building the Amazon Aurora control plane, a service that efficiently manages vast fleets of databases for customers, freeing them from traditional database administration. The control plane delivers exceptional availability and failover performance to support demanding workloads globally. It automates all aspects of database cluster lifecycle management including creation, operation, scaling, and failover. This solution integrates deeply with engine and storage layers to provide a seamless, enterprise-grade, cloud-native relational database experience compatible with MySQL and PostgreSQL. Aurora can scale to store terabytes of data and handle millions of queries per second.
Responsibilities
As a software development manager, you will lead talented engineers in solving complex distributed systems challenges at large scales. You will influence product design and oversee feature delivery end to end while fostering an entrepreneurial and collaborative team culture. Responsibilities include mentoring engineers, coordinating cross-team efforts, and working with senior leadership to build a high-performance, accountable engineering group passionate about innovative projects and customer success.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields
- Minimum 3 years managing engineering teams
- At least 7 years of software engineering experience
- Expertise in software development lifecycle practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build, testing, and live operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management
Preferred Experience
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to users, teams, and executive leadership
- Talent acquisition and development skills, including coaching software engineers
- Architecting and designing scalable, reliable software systems
- Proven success managing teams that deliver complex, world-class software at scale
