Shift Lead

Overview

The Shift Lead is responsible for opening and closing the store in the absence of store management, handling all necessary startup procedures, cash management, and ensuring the sales floor and stockroom are prepared for business. This role includes controlling the store's back entrance during deliveries and supporting various operational and customer service functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage store opening and closing duties, including cash handling, system startups, and operational readiness.
• Process product returns, order voids, customer refunds, cash deposits, and change distribution for registers.
• Provide exemplary customer service by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and ensuring positive experiences.
• Demonstrate and promote best practices in customer interaction and Walgreens service standards among team members.
• Hold responsibility for store keys to open/close when management is unavailable.
• Assist with vendor orders, deliveries, and warehouse coordination, including opening back door for deliveries.
• Maintain accuracy of sales registrations, pricing adjustments, scanning error records, and voids on assigned cash registers.
• Support management in order exception reviews, returns processing, and inventory display arrangements including promotional and seasonal setups.
• Conduct accurate inventory counts and uphold stock accuracy throughout departments and storage areas.
• Ensure compliance with Outdate program procedures for product freshness and safety.
• Manage basic department pricing, daily price updates, and ensure correct signage to support compliance with pricing and local regulations.
• Perform bookkeeping tasks such as cash reporting, ledger maintenance, and bill payments as requested.
• Maintain store cleanliness and appearance by overseeing repairs and upkeep in management absence.
• Follow prescribed food handling and stocking policies, including product rotation and separation of raw and cooked items.
• Operate and utilize store systems and equipment proficiently.
• Provide assistance at the pharmacy window when required.
• Ensure adherence to state/local laws regarding the sale of regulated products such as alcohol and tobacco.
• Carry out bag checks for employees exiting the store to prevent theft.
• Maintain compliance with company policies and promote respectful workplace relationships.
• Undertake special tasks and assignments as designated by management.

Training and Communication

• Complete mandatory training and tasks assigned by management.
• Act as a communication link between management and staff during manager absence, relaying important information and responsibilities.
• Report disciplinary actions and customer complaints to management appropriately.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year experience in leadership, supervisory, or key holder role within retail.
• Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking (except in Puerto Rico).
• Preferred knowledge in store inventory control practices.
• Willingness to consider candidates with arrest and conviction records.
• Possession and maintenance of valid PTCB certification or equivalent pharmacy license as required by state law.
