Overview

The Field Engineer utilizes their practical field experience combined with foundational technical knowledge, working under moderate supervision. They address a variety of straightforward issues encountered in field or yard environments by analyzing and proposing solutions aligned with company standards. They understand operational business drivers and apply their technical judgment to resolve challenges effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all tasks comply strictly with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be prepared to travel offshore for job execution and remain available at onshore sites as required.
  • Suggest amendments to technical drawings and details to enhance operational safety and clarity within installation procedures.
  • Create vessel layouts and barge loadout strategies to ensure safe and timely transportation of materials and equipment for offshore installation.
  • Engage actively in project evaluation sessions including constructability reviews, readiness assessments, hazard identification studies, and job safety analyses; implement recommended safety and procedural improvements.
  • Review project documentation and drawings diligently, reporting discrepancies, errors, or missing information that may impact task execution.
  • Confirm that proposed equipment capabilities are adequate for the intended work.
  • Develop offshore installation procedures following company guidelines that specify methods, sequences, installation aids, and necessary consumables.
  • Prepare comprehensive material lists for construction materials and consumables, coordinating procurement with the project coordinator.
  • Issue appropriate loadout lists based on established best practices.
  • Coordinate across various departments (Marine, E&M, Welding, Quality, HSES, Survey & ROV, Diving) and subcontractors to ensure availability of equipment and personnel for offshore project execution.
  • Inspect and oversee pre-rigging, loadouts, and sea fastenings; acknowledge receipt of fabricated structures and materials; create inspection checklists and ensure adherence to procedures.
  • Work with Production Engineers to verify project loadouts.
  • Liaise with logistics teams to coordinate material and equipment transport by ship, barge, or truck.
  • Engage with customer and subcontractor representatives offshore as well as the Operations Engineer to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Monitor job progress and site conditions; promptly inform the Operations Engineer of any developments affecting project timelines or execution approaches.
  • Present work scope and execution plans to offshore personnel, clarifying contractual and technical details; distribute necessary field documentation such as sketches and checklists.
  • Assist in addressing technical challenges encountered during offshore installation, contributing to corrective action planning.
  • Compile post-job completion reports adhering to company protocols.
  • Prepare and assemble as-built documentation and records in alignment with contract requirements and agreed project scope.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Three to five years of hands-on offshore installation experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or comparable design software.
  • Working knowledge of design principles and practices related to offshore project execution.
  • Basic competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and familiarity with 3D software is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills paired with effective problem-solving capabilities.
  • Readiness and willingness to travel to various job locations and operate in diverse environmental conditions as job demands.
