About the role
The Coastal States Stability Mechanism (CSSM) is a small-grants initiative working across northern Ghana, Benin, and Togo. It focuses on areas where instability could spread from the Sahel and supports stronger, locally backed state presence.
The programme is financed by the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (MINBUZA), and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). It is delivered by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Programme outcomes
- Security actors in civil settings are strengthened in areas facing the risk of violent extremist expansion.
- Governments improve and broaden access to essential basic services.
- Communities lower instability risks through focused measures that improve social and economic conditions.
CSSM collaborates with government counterparts and local communities in selected locations, guided by nationally identified security and stabilization priorities. The approach emphasizes national leadership and coordination between security actors and communities in analysis, planning, and implementation.
Key duties

- Carry out daily vehicle checks, including tyres, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, and other essentials, to keep the vehicle roadworthy.
- Coordinate minor repairs and ensure the vehicle remains clean and presentable.
- Ensure vehicles receive routine servicing at the required intervals.
- Maintain spare-parts records and complete monthly inventory checks.
- Plan the safest and most direct route using roads in the best available condition.
- Use IOM vehicles only for approved official purposes, following supervisory instructions.
- Prepare daily log sheets and monthly summaries covering mileage, fuel use, and related vehicle statistics.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and discretion in matters involving IOM personnel and operations, and take appropriate steps to reduce security risks to staff and property during travel.
- Receive official visitors at airports and support immigration and customs procedures when needed.
- Pick up and deliver mail, documents, pouches, and other items to and from the country office, post office, airport, government offices, UN agencies, institutions, and project locations.
- Assist with simple office support tasks such as making phone calls, answering calls, photocopying, and maintaining records when required.
- Follow all security rules and protocols without exception.
- Handle any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
