Role overview

Equans UK & Ireland is hiring a permanent full-time Caretaker for Wheelers Lane Primary School in Birmingham, B13 0SF. The role is based onsite and runs for 37.5 hours each week, with a salary of £26,728.21 per year plus benefits.

Working pattern

This position follows a Monday to Friday schedule with an 8-hour shift arranged within the site opening window of 6:00am to 18:00pm.

What the role involves

You will help keep the school premises safe, secure, clean, and ready for use. This includes looking after the building structure, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and mechanical and electrical assets.

Experience, skills and qualifications

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in facilities management support, including litter control and basic building and plant maintenance. Previous work in premises upkeep or caretaking within an education setting is desirable. You should understand health and safety principles, be able to organise and prioritise your workload, and act as a key holder while responding to site access needs. A GCSE or O Level in Mathematics and English, or an equivalent qualification, is desirable, as is a relevant trade or vocational qualification.

You should be physically fit enough to carry out caretaking duties, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and comfortable working as part of a team while sharing knowledge with others. Good communication and customer service skills are essential, along with flexibility, a willingness to adapt, and the ability to work out of hours when required. You must also live within 20 minutes travelling time of the school.
