Overview
This leadership position involves driving the development and delivery of advanced Timing and Synchronization software functionalities for Cisco's Silicon One platforms. The role centers on implementing and advancing Precision Time Protocol (PTP), Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE), and related timing technologies within embedded Linux environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of Timing and Synchronization software components utilizing C++ on Linux embedded networking systems.
- Create software modules supporting clock synchronization, timing measurements, monitoring, diagnostics, and performance validations.
- Work closely with silicon architects, hardware engineers, SDK developers, and Network Operating System teams to integrate timing capabilities across Silicon One platforms.
- Manage implementation and integration of timing features spanning SDKs, platform software, and Network Operating Systems.
- Conduct root-cause analyses and troubleshoot complex software and system issues with tools such as GDB.
- Contribute to development of testing frameworks for timing validation and synchronization monitoring.
- Engage in architecture discussions, design reviews, and strategic technical planning alongside senior engineers and architects.
- Mentor engineering team members, perform code reviews, and uphold engineering best practices.
- Collaborate across software, firmware, hardware, and ASIC teams to ensure high-quality network solutions.
- Drive initiatives to enhance software quality, development workflows, and automation environments.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with over 10 years of software development experience, or a Master’s degree with more than 8 years of experience.
- Strong proficiency in C++ development.
- Experience programming for embedded Linux systems and hardware-constrained platforms.
- In-depth knowledge of Linux OS including system-level development and debugging.
- Hands-on experience with GDB and similar debugging utilities.
- Background in networking software focusing on Precision Time Protocol (PTP), Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE), clock synchronization and management.
- Good understanding of Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking technologies.
- Knowledge of networking hardware components such as PHY, MAC, and SerDes.
- Experience in designing, integrating, or debugging networking platform software and hardware.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in Timing software development across multiple Network Operating Systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of timing-related protocols including IEEE 1588.
- Experience with synchronization validation, timing measurements, clock recovery, holdover mechanisms, monitoring and diagnostics.
- Skill in developing SDKs, platform software or device drivers for ASICs, NPUs, or network switch/routing silicon.
- Familiarity with ASIC-based platform feature enablement and validation.
- Knowledge of Silicon One architecture and associated SDKs.
- Experience with Linux kernel modules, device drivers, and low-level hardware interactions.
- Proficiency in Python scripting for automation, diagnostics, and validation frameworks.
- Knowledge of Port Management, Ethernet port initialization, PHY and MAC programming, and SerDes diagnostic tools.
- Strong grasp of networking protocols, switch/router designs, and high-performance networking systems.
- Demonstrated leadership in technical projects and effective inter-team collaboration.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.
