About the company
Contact is focused on powering Aotearoa while helping create a better future through the energy transition, renewable energy investment, and more connected ways of working. The business operates across power, broadband, and mobile, with a strong commitment to customers, communities, and its people. Within the retail area, the focus is on more personalised customer experiences, forward-looking products, and strong commercial results.
The opportunity
This senior, practical role sits across several value streams in the retail business and helps turn strategy into commercial outcomes. The role bridges planning, people, and delivery, with a strong emphasis on aligning initiatives, sequencing work well, and making sure delivery creates measurable value.
You will work with customer segmentation and growth, future customer experience, future product, and flex-related work, partnering closely with squads, product owners, and technology teams.
What you will do
- Lead the planning and prioritisation of initiatives so they support key retail objectives.
- Build a forward-looking pipeline of work that connects to commercial and strategic priorities, not just immediate delivery needs.
- Act as a connector across squads, value streams, and technology teams to support alignment and influence decisions.
- Track progress, spot delivery risks or constraints, and collaborate with stakeholders to remove blockers or change sequence where needed.
- Work with Retail, Technology, and Finance to monitor performance, benefits, and progress against agreed commitments.
- Run governance cadences, planning forums, and value stream coordination to keep work visible and progressing.
- Improve ways of working by bringing structure, discipline, and clarity to planning and execution across teams.
About you
You are comfortable working where strategy, commercial performance, and delivery intersect. You can shape what needs to happen next and influence how it gets done in a complex environment.
You have the commercial credibility to engage senior stakeholders, challenge thinking constructively, and help align teams around the initiatives that will deliver the biggest impact.
What you will bring
- Background in planning, transformation, or delivery leadership within complex, customer-centred environments with strong technology delivery.
- Solid commercial judgement and the ability to connect initiatives to measurable business outcomes.
- Experience shaping and prioritising work at portfolio or value-stream level, rather than only managing execution.
- Confidence working with senior leaders, influencing direction, and creating clarity when priorities compete.
- Ability to think ahead, identify opportunities, and build pipelines aligned to strategic goals.
- Strong organisation and systems thinking to coordinate multi-stream delivery.
- Analytical decision-making supported by data and insight.
- A collaborative, outcomes-driven style that builds trust across different groups.
Working arrangements and location
Flexible working is supported where it works for the person, the team, and the business. The main Retail hubs are in Wellington and Auckland, and this role is best suited to someone who can work flexibly from one of those locations to support strong in-person collaboration. Proximity to a main hub is important, although smaller sites exist in other parts of Aotearoa.
This is a contract role for approximately 12 months.
