Job description

Role Overview

As a Java Developer at Nasdaq reporting directly to the Director of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for managing complex technical challenges from requirements gathering through to delivering production-ready software. Your work will span backend systems, application security, and cross-platform development efforts, contributing to new software creation as well as enhancement of existing products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test, deploy, and maintain software solutions that satisfy and surpass both product and client expectations.
  • Develop and sustain security-centric applications featuring increasing scale and complexity.
  • Enhance existing systems by introducing new functionalities, improving performance, and adapting to evolving platforms.
  • Guarantee cross-platform operability for all deliverables.
  • Continuously monitor and refine system improvements post-launch based on performance metrics.
  • Participate in architectural design, database schema creation, and provide input on technical strategy.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related disciplines or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A minimum of three years of hands-on experience in Java development, with strong foundation in software design principles, efficient data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases including design, querying, and analysis skills.
  • Proven expertise in continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) methodologies.
  • Ability to write secure, modular, testable, and maintainable code.
  • Previous involvement in cross-platform or multi-environment software development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Azure.
  • Experience with data warehouses or managing large-scale data infrastructures.
  • An interest or background in application security best practices.

Work Location and Eligibility

This permanent, full-time position is based in Sydney, Australia, supporting a hybrid work model requiring at least two days onsite weekly, potentially increasing to three in the future. Candidates must hold full working rights in Australia, specifically Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
