Senior Backend Engineer

Role overview

This position is for a Backend Engineer who will design, build, and support secure, scalable backend systems that sit behind digital products. The work is centered on strong engineering fundamentals, cloud-native delivery, and a DevOps-oriented way of working. Key responsibilities

• Work closely with Business Analysts and Product Managers to clarify user stories and turn them into technical specifications.
• Partner with QA engineers to strengthen automated test coverage and resolve bugs and defects early.
• Coordinate with DevOps teams to improve automation for build, deployment, and monitoring workflows.
• Build and maintain high-performing backend services and APIs in a cloud-native setup.
• Apply modern engineering practices such as TDD, pair programming, and CI/CD.
• Review code, uphold security standards, and ensure strong software craftsmanship.
• Design and document system architecture while meeting government security and regulatory expectations.
• Communicate clearly in writing and speaking to present ideas and influence stakeholders.
• Work end-to-end with product teams to deliver products.
• Stay effective under pressure, manage priorities well, and meet tight deadlines.
• Improve backend systems with a focus on scalability, observability, and reliability.
• Contribute to blockchain and smart contract development when relevant.

Skills and experience

The role calls for a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer or Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. Strong Git experience and familiarity with modern branching models such as GitFlow and trunk-based development are expected. Candidates should be proficient in backend development using Shell scripting, Java, Python, Golang, or Node.js, and should have exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Experience with microservices and event-driven systems is beneficial, along with practical knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes. The role also values experience with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, or Redis, observability tools including Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, or the ELK stack, infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, and API documentation tools such as Swagger.

Additional information

This role is based in Singapore and is offered on a contract basis in an onsite setup. Candidates from computer science, product management, or related educational backgrounds are considered a plus.
