Role overview
This permanent position is for an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager based in Shannon, County Clare. The role sits within a high-volume electronics manufacturing environment and covers New Product Introduction (NPI), automation, facilities engineering, and production support. It is a senior leadership position focused on building and guiding a strong engineering team while improving manufacturing performance across a highly automated operation.
The successful candidate will be central to bringing new products into production smoothly, unlocking automation opportunities, and supporting the organisation’s wider growth plans.
Key responsibilities
New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Own the manufacturing engineering input from early design stages through pilot builds and ramp-up to production.
- Work with R&D teams to apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) principles.
- Create scalable and reliable manufacturing methods for new products.
- Lead PFMEA work, process validation, control plan creation, and production readiness reviews.
- Ensure new products transition successfully into full-rate manufacturing.
Automation and manufacturing technology
- Help shape and deliver the site’s automation roadmap.
- Spot opportunities for automation in manufacturing, testing, and material handling.
- Manage automation projects that raise productivity, quality, and efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement through the introduction of newer technologies and better manufacturing approaches.
Facilities and infrastructure
- Provide engineering direction for facility and infrastructure projects supporting manufacturing.
- Contribute to capacity growth, layout improvements, and future expansion plans.
- Partner with Maintenance and EHS teams to maintain compliance and dependable operations.
Production engineering support
- Offer senior technical guidance on difficult manufacturing and process issues.
- Support production teams in improving quality, yield, OEE, and overall operational results.
- Strengthen engineering skills and technical knowledge across the business.
Leadership and team development
- Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
- Create a culture built on accountability, innovation, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Build effective working relationships with R&D, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Maintenance teams.
Requirements
- A degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electronic, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 7 to 10+ years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
- Prior experience in engineering leadership or management.
- Strong background in NPI, process development, industrialisation, automation project delivery, continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, validation, and structured problem-solving.
- Experience handling engineering projects, capital expenditure investments, and equipment implementation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Preferred background in electronics, medical devices, automotive, or other high-volume production sectors.
- Experience leading automation, manufacturing engineering, or process engineering teams is desirable.
- Knowledge of OEE improvement, PFMEA, validation methods, and lean manufacturing principles is an advantage.
