Field Operator Transmission

Overview

This position is based at the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project in Saudi Arabia within the Operations & Maintenance department. The Field Operator Transmission is responsible for ensuring the safe and dependable operation, inspection, and maintenance of transmission systems and related electrical equipment. This role requires adherence to approved operational procedures, health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, and applicable grid regulations to guarantee continuous power transmission.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and supervise transmission equipment including substations, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, isolators, protection systems, and related electrical assets.
• Perform routine on-site inspections to detect anomalies such as equipment faults, alarms, overheating, and leaks; report findings appropriately.
• Carry out authorized switching, isolation, and restoration tasks in compliance with established procedures, permits, and switching programs.
• Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance activities, including equipment isolation, testing, inspection, and safe reactivation.
• Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, electrical safety protocols, Permit to Work (PTW) guidelines, and transmission/grid standards.
• Respond promptly and effectively to equipment failures, trips, alarms, and emergencies, supporting troubleshooting and system reestablishment.
• Maintain comprehensive and accurate operational documentation, including logs, inspection and switching records, equipment statuses, and incident reports.
• Coordinate closely with Control Room Operators, Maintenance, Engineering teams, Grid/Transmission Control departments, and contractors for safe and efficient transmission operations.
• Confirm availability and operational status of transmission equipment; escalate defects that might impair system reliability.
• Contribute to operational enhancements, reliability initiatives, and adoption of best practices within transmission operations.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Power Systems, or related fields.
• Certification in electrical safety and switching authorization preferred.
• Familiarity with Saudi electricity transmission regulations and grid standards is advantageous.

Experience

• 3 to 7 years of professional experience in electrical transmission, substations, power generation, renewable energy, or utilities sectors.
• Preferred experience working with high voltage (HV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) transmission systems and substations.
• Experience in shift operations and handling high-voltage switching is a plus.

Technical Competencies

• Thorough knowledge of HV/EHV electrical systems and substations operation.
• Understanding of electrical components such as transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, busbars, current transformers (CTs), potential transformers/voltage transformers (PTs/VTs), protection systems, and grounding.
• Familiarity with electrical protection, control, and SCADA systems.
• Proficiency in reading single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and equipment drawings.
• Knowledge of Permit to Work, Lockout/Tagout processes, switching, and electrical isolation procedures.
• Basic fault diagnosis and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and operational reporting tools.
