Job description
About the Role
We are seeking Junior Rust Developers to join our engineering team located in Abu Dhabi. The role involves developing production-grade code in Rust and Golang spanning backend services, embedded firmware, and blockchain protocol programming. Initially, you'll be assigned to one of these specialties, with opportunities to rotate and broaden your expertise under senior supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Rust code focused on one of these areas: HTTP/gRPC backend services, embedded device firmware, or blockchain protocol and smart contract logic.
- Create and execute tests, troubleshoot defects, and enhance existing software components.
- Engage in peer code reviews and contribute to architectural and design discussions.
- Investigate and resolve real-world issues such as failing service requests, hardware inconsistencies, or unexpected blockchain behaviors.
Candidate Requirements
- At least two years of professional experience or an equivalent strong portfolio of personal or open-source projects.
- Proficiency in both Rust and Golang programming languages.
- Solid understanding of Rust programming concepts like ownership, borrowing, the Result and Option types, traits, and error handling.
- Comfortable working with Git version control, command line tools, and deciphering unfamiliar codebases.
- Effective written communication skills and an eagerness to learn via feedback and code reviews.
Specialized Knowledge (at least one area)
- Backend Development: experience with async Rust frameworks such as Tokio, Axum, or Actix; knowledge of SQL, serde data serialization, and containerization using Docker.
- Embedded Systems: familiarity with no_std Rust environments; experience with C programming or microcontrollers (Cortex-M, ESP32, RISC-V); interface protocols like I2C, SPI, UART; and capability to read hardware datasheets.
- Blockchain Technologies: basics of consensus algorithms and cryptography; working knowledge with Solana/Anchor, Substrate, or CosmWasm platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Contributions to open-source projects or a publicly accessible code portfolio.
- Exposure to C or C++ programming, WebAssembly technologies, or distributed system concepts.
- Experience in security challenges or Capture The Flag competitions.
