Entry-Level Full Stack Developer

As part of the Global Wealth Engineering group, you will contribute to modernizing and maintaining client and account onboarding systems that enhance the Scotia Wealth Management experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate in designing, developing, and deploying full-stack applications serving both internal and external users.
• Utilize modern frameworks such as React, Next.js, and Node.js to build components and services under guidance.
• Assist in the creation of RESTful APIs and integrate microservices and event-driven platforms like Kafka or Google Pub/Sub.
• Participate actively in Agile workflows, delivering high-quality solutions and improving coding practices through code reviews.
• Support automation through CI/CD pipelines and automated testing, ensuring deployment efficiency.
• Implement security-first development approaches, including secure coding and API security principles.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in development and production environments, collaborating with senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or commensurate hands-on experience.
• Between 2 and 4 years of full-stack development exposure via internships or professional roles.
• Proficient with front-end technologies including React.js, Next.js, JavaScript (ES6+), and TypeScript.
• Experience with back-end development using Node.js and Java (Java 8+), with foundational knowledge of Spring Boot.
• Understanding of microservices architecture, REST APIs, and event streaming platforms such as Kafka or Google Pub/Sub is beneficial.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Cloud Functions) and Microsoft Azure (App Services, Key Vault).
• Basic experience with DevOps tools such as Git, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions.
• Awareness of security protocols including SSL/TLS, OAuth2, and JWT.
• Knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL, Azure SQL) and introductory NoSQL (MongoDB).
• Comfortable working in Agile environments and understanding the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Strong problem-solving aptitude and eagerness to acquire new skills.
• Ability to work well within cross-functional teams and receive direction from senior engineers.
• Additional assets include experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and familiarity with financial services.
