Senior Software Engineer, Database

About the Role

Join Demonware, a part of Activision, as a Senior Software Engineer within the Database team based in Dublin, Ireland. This onsite position involves working four days per week at the office, with possible schedule changes to meet business demands. Demonware manages thousands of database nodes and aims to simplify database management for internal teams by evolving a self-service platform leveraging cloud technologies such as Redis, Kubernetes, and Vitess (MySQL).

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance the database tooling platform, adapting it towards cloud integration and improved self-service capabilities.
• Collaborate with other database management teams to ensure their needs are promptly and effectively addressed.
• Lead software and tooling architecture decisions prioritizing high reliability and scalability for both players and internal users.
• Take ownership of the design, implementation, and maintenance of features, components, and tools.
• Participate in reviewing team members' designs and code contributions.
• Support client-facing teams during rollout of new features, offering consulting and assistance worldwide.
• Work jointly with engineering peers to troubleshoot technology issues and deliver an excellent customer experience.
• Mentor peers on best practices for database tooling development and integration.

Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of professional software engineering experience in critical production environments.
• Proficient coding skills with multiple programming languages, especially Python.
• Experience designing and developing tooling intended for use by other engineers, with insight into API and tool design principles.
• Knowledgeable in database schema design and management for both MySQL and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with container orchestration technologies, particularly Kubernetes.
• Strong communication skills facilitating effective interaction within and across teams.
• Solid understanding of networking protocols such as TCP, HTTP, and TLS.
• Ability to analyze complex requirements and translate them into architectural designs.
• Curiosity and a research-driven approach towards learning new technologies.
• Exceptional problem-solving capabilities and the ability to operate with minimal supervision.
• Collaborative, positive, and supportive mindset in team environments.

Preferred Extras

• Experience with Golang software development.
• Knowledge of continuous integration pipelines and agile development practices.
• Background in building backend services including RESTful APIs, Linux, and open-source software.
• Prior involvement in large-scale services supporting millions of concurrent users.
