Python Developer

Role overview

We are hiring a Python Developer in Toronto, Ontario for a contract engagement. The role is based onsite three days per week and offers a pay rate of CAD 45 to 50 per hour, inclusive. You will build and support Python applications and SQL-based data solutions in a fast-moving, data-heavy environment.

What you will do

• Develop, test, enhance, and support Python applications and related services
• Build fast, well-structured SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models
• Work with relational databases and help maintain strong performance, accuracy, and availability
• Carry out ETL tasks such as extracting, transforming, and loading data
• Partner with business analysts, data scientists, and engineering teams to translate requirements into deliverables
• Troubleshoot production incidents and investigate system or query performance issues
• Follow coding standards, secure development practices, and engineering best practices
• Take part in code reviews, technical documentation, and team knowledge sharing
• Assist with deployment and ongoing support across development, testing, and production environments

What we are looking for

• At least 8 years of overall development experience, including 4+ years working professionally with Python and related frameworks
• Minimum 6 years of strong SQL experience, including complex querying and database tuning
• At least 6 years of experience with relational databases such as SQL Server or Oracle
• 4+ years of experience designing and integrating REST APIs
• Sound understanding of data structures, algorithms, software engineering fundamentals, and DevOps practices
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting
• Strong communication, documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• High attention to detail, a commitment to code quality, and the ability to manage priorities and deadlines

Preferred experience

• Experience using version control tools such as Git
• Background working with large-scale or high-volume data platforms
• Exposure to Agile or Scrum delivery environments

Additional information

This is a contract position. The work location is Toronto, ON, with an onsite requirement of three days per week. An AI tool may assist during the hiring process, but final selection decisions are made by the recruitment team after a full review of candidates.
