Mainframe Developer

Role Summary

This role is for a software engineer who can design, build, test, and support applications that satisfy customer needs. The work spans the full software development lifecycle, including architecture, coding, quality testing, and deployment. It also includes full-stack capabilities where needed, covering both user-facing and server-side components.

Key Responsibilities

• Work directly with customers to understand their needs, challenges, and use cases, and translate those insights into practical, user-focused solutions.
• Address complex technical problems by designing and delivering solutions using appropriate tools, programming languages, frameworks, methods such as agile, and relevant technologies.
• Review application or service requirements and choose the right technology stack, integration approach, and deployment plan.
• Prepare high-level architecture designs that define the structure, components, and interfaces of the software.
• Partner with product owners, designers, architects, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
• Set up and apply testing approaches, standards, policies, and procedures aligned with organizational goals, regulations, and industry best practices.
• Continuously improve performance, optimize applications, and introduce new technologies to improve development productivity.
• Use good engineering practices such as test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
• Support security measures that protect user data, including encryption and anonymization where required.
• Build intuitive and engaging user interfaces.
• Develop and maintain backend services such as APIs and microservices using server-side programming languages.
• Assess and adopt new technologies and capabilities, and participate in solutions involving emerging stack layers and industry collaboration.

Skills Required

IBM DB2, COBOL, IMS, mainframe systems, and mainframe database knowledge are central to this role.

Skills Preferred

Additional exposure to BigQuery, APIs, and AIPGEE is useful for the position.

Experience

The role targets Engineer III level candidates with practical experience in two programming languages or advanced proficiency in one language. Overall, around 6+ years in IT and 4+ years in development are expected.

Education

A bachelor's degree is required, and B.Tech / B.E. in any specialization is acceptable.

Work Location and Mode

Location: Chennai, India. The working model is hybrid, with 4 days working from office.
