GCP Cloud Security Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Security Engineer specializing in traditional security methodologies with a strong emphasis on legacy systems and integrating these with Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This position involves maintaining and upgrading existing security environments, while selectively applying cloud security knowledge to enhance certain areas.

Core Responsibilities

• Analyze and address security risks affecting legacy systems to preserve their integrity and reliability.
• Design and administer security mechanisms for legacy infrastructures, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, and access controls.
• Create and update security policies and standards tailored to legacy system requirements, ensuring adherence to industry and regulatory standards.
• Investigate, manage, and respond to security incidents impacting legacy systems, including incident containment and remediation.
• Deliver expert troubleshooting and support for legacy security tools and frameworks.
• Collaborate with multiple teams to secure integration points between new technologies and legacy systems.
• Recommend improvements to strengthen legacy system defenses against emerging threats.
• Apply GCP security knowledge to projects such as integrating legacy security logs with GCP monitoring solutions like Security Command Center.
• Enhance certain security functions by leveraging GCP services for threat detection and vulnerability assessments.
• Support secure migration efforts of selected security workloads to GCP environments.
• Provide guidance and training on legacy security best practices and foundational GCP security to engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security or a related discipline.
• 8 to 9 years of security engineering experience focused on core security concepts and legacy system protection.
• In-depth understanding of network and OS security, vulnerability management, cryptography, incident response, and security frameworks.
• Hands-on expertise with legacy security solutions including firewalls, IDS/IPS, legacy OS, and hardware security appliances.
• Solid knowledge of network fundamentals such as TCP/IP, routing, and switching.
• Familiarity with compliance standards like NIST and ISO 27001.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving aptitude in complex legacy environments.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
• Minimum 3 years of practical experience using GCP with an emphasis on cloud security measures.
• Certified as a Google Cloud Professional Cloud Security Engineer.

Preferred Credentials

• Additional relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM).
• Experience with scripting languages and automation tools such as Python and Bash.
• Deep understanding of cloud security best practices including the shared responsibility model.
• Exposure to DevSecOps methodologies.
• Knowledge of container security platforms like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with migration or integration of legacy systems with GCP cloud services.
