Job Summary

The Assembler plays a crucial role in manufacturing by accurately assembling air units and parts following specifications. Operating under the guidance of manufacturing leadership, this position involves working with mechanical units, fabricated components, and electrical/electronic systems to build subassemblies or complete units using various hand and power tools, jigs, and fixtures. Precision in fitting, aligning, calibrating, and adjusting parts to ensure product performance and quality is essential. The role requires adherence to safety precautions due to exposure to moving machinery, potential heights, and electrical hazards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interpret blueprints, routers, and specifications to assemble parts and equipment efficiently and precisely.
  • Obtain training and certification to safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts during material handling and assembly processes.
  • Execute a variety of assembly tasks using both hand and power tools.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area and tools while complying with safety standards.

  • Commit to safety by consistently following procedures and wearing required protective gear.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by supervisors or management.
  • Exemplify Nortek’s core values: Safety first, teamwork, ownership mentality, embracing change, and fostering a lasting legacy.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on lean business practices and waste reduction.

Position Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; additional technical or trade school training is advantageous.
  • At least two years of assembly or construction experience, or an equivalent blend of technical education and practical experience.
  • Capability and willingness to become certified for operating overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools such as pipe cutters, ratcheting wrenches, standard wrenches, and applying significant torque throughout the workday.
  • Physical ability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, with good manual dexterity for manipulating and assembling parts.
  • Capacity to endure repetitive hand and wrist movements and stand for extended periods on concrete floors.
  • Ability to perform physical activities including walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing ladders safely.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written, along with preferable math skills for interpreting technical documents.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Dedicated to wearing safety equipment consistently, recognizing the safety-sensitive nature of the position.

Additional Information and Benefits

  • Nortek is an equal opportunity employer, welcoming applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or other protected categories.
  • Comprehensive benefits package includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability coverage, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, and a 401(k) retirement plan with company contributions.
  • Additional perks include working in a climate-controlled environment, benefits effective from the first day, a 401(k) matching program, and an accrual of four weeks of vacation in the first year.
