Role Overview

The API Connect Developer will contribute significantly to enterprise-wide API initiatives aimed at connecting applications, data, and services across intricate environments. This position entails crafting dependable, secure, and well-governed integration solutions collaboratively with architects, developers, QA, infrastructure, security, and DevOps teams to ensure high-quality delivery and sustained platform performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, configure, and sustain APIs with IBM API Connect technology.
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs tailored to technical and business requirements.
  • Oversee the complete API lifecycle, including development, testing, deployment, version control, and retirement.
  • Set up API gateway policies handling authentication, authorization, security, rate limiting, throttling, routing, and traffic control.
  • Apply API security protocols such as OAuth 2.0, JWT, TLS/SSL, and related mechanisms.
  • Create and maintain API documentation using OpenAPI and Swagger frameworks.
  • Define API products, subscription plans, applications, and manage consumer access.
  • Support API Developer Portal operations and the API publishing workflow.
  • Integrate APIs seamlessly with backend systems including applications, databases, middleware, and external platforms.
  • Handle protocols and formats like REST, SOAP, HTTP/HTTPS, JSON, and XML.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to API connectivity, security, performance, and integration.
  • Monitor API health including traffic, performance metrics, error rates, and availability.
  • Manage deployments across various environments: Development, UAT, and Production.
  • Engage in API testing phases, defect fixes, and ongoing production support.
  • Collaborate extensively with architects, developers, QA teams, infrastructure, security, and DevOps personnel.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update API specifications, technical guides, deployment manuals, and support documentation.
  • Participate in code and design assessments, strict adherence to API development and governance protocols.
  • Provide responsive support for production incidents relating to APIs.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, Information Systems, Engineering or similar technical discipline.
  • Between six and eight years of direct experience in API management, API development, and enterprise integration.
  • Proficiency with IBM API Connect including API design, configuration, security policy formulation, lifecycle management, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Expertise designing and building REST APIs, with deep familiarity with OpenAPI and Swagger.
  • Skilled in API Gateway policy configuration covering routing, authentication, authorization, rate limiting, throttling and securing APIs using OAuth 2.0, JWT, and TLS/SSL.
  • Experience integrating APIs with enterprise systems, databases, middleware; adept in HTTP/HTTPS, SOAP web services, JSON, and XML for integrating legacy and enterprise solutions.
  • Comprehensive know-how of managing API lifecycles across Development, UAT, and Production stages including version control, publications, deployments, retirements, and defect handling.
  • Following and contributing to secure API design practices, design reviews, strict enterprise standards, and managing change-release processes.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English for technical documentation and team communications.
  • Good command of Arabic to effectively communicate with Saudi local teams and stakeholders.
  • Availability to work within Saudi Arabia business hours.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with IBM DataPower, IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) / IIB, or IBM Cloud Pak for Integration (CP4I).
  • Familiarity with Kafka or event-driven integration approaches.
  • Prior experience in Banking or Financial Services industries.
