Job Overview
The Senior Application Developer role is essential in leading software development efforts by guiding fellow developers and overseeing the creation of large-scale or complex applications that drive business goals through process improvements and technology implementation. This position involves understanding customer requirements, delegating tasks efficiently among the team, and ensuring timely delivery of projects as per specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert business needs into technical designs or solutions following an established systems development lifecycle (SDLC) methodology.
- Design, develop, and test application software components utilizing relevant tools and languages, adhering to rigorous design and code review processes and industry best practices.
- Resolve advanced and complex technical challenges effectively.
- Provide leadership and technical guidance for launching new complex applications and enhancing existing systems.
- Actively mentor and lead other application developers to foster professional growth and quality.
- Create and maintain documentation for coding standards and technology usage within the IT department; conduct peer reviews to ensure compliance with standards.
- Communicate technical and business information clearly to users and technical teams both verbally and in writing; coordinate feedback on outstanding issues to management and stakeholders.
- Utilize data and insights to influence customer decisions towards appropriate technical solutions.
- Conduct in-depth studies of application workflows, programming tools, and products, recommending standards and best practices as needed.
- Maintain effective communication with company representatives regarding system availability, feasibility study outcomes, and software product evaluations.
- Keep updated with professional application program activities and review industry literature continually to stay informed about new system developments.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and supervises a team of application developers.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems.
- At least five years of professional experience in programming, analysis, and design in a similar setting.
- Strong knowledge and extensive experience working with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies.
- Proficiency with Oracle Database and Oracle Developer Suite 10g.
- Background in developing business applications including client-server and web-enabled modules.
- Familiarity with programming, analysis, and design coursework.
- Good conceptual and practical understanding of design tools.
- Ability to optimize and enhance performance of application modules.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with teams effectively.
