Junior Software Engineer

About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of a partner organization affiliated with Haystack for the position of Junior Software Engineer based in Washington, DC. This role involves building and maintaining backend services and web applications primarily using Python, working alongside senior developers to develop and enhance software systems.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop clean, efficient, and maintainable Python code for backend services and application logic.
• Collaborate with experienced developers to design, implement, and refine software solutions.
• Create unit tests and participate in code review processes to uphold software quality standards.
• Assist in front-end development by crafting responsive web interfaces and UI components.
• Optimize SQL statements and create database schema designs for relational databases.
• Utilize Docker to containerize applications and manage container images.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology-related discipline.
• At least one year of relevant software development experience.
• Strong proficiency with Python for scripting, backend programming, and REST API development.
• Experience using Git for source code version control and team collaboration.
• Familiarity with SQL and relational database management.
• Basic knowledge of web technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and time management abilities.
